1 Timothy 6:7-19
7 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
Do you see verse 19—They are to do good…..to be generous and ready to share?
Working hard to save money. Finding the best deals. Clipping those coupons every Sunday. All of these things done, but for what purpose?
I think verse 19 sums up purpose behind our diligent work towards saving money. One of the benefits of saving more and spending less is that it frees us up to do the things that this verse mention; it grants us the opportunities to be generous—helping those who are in financial need, for example. We must always be on the lookout for ways that we can share
I’d like to challenge each of you, commit one day a week to spending no money. At all. No trips to the donut shop on that day. No mani/pedis. Here’s the thing—-save up any money that you normally would have spent that day. But here’s the thing: Take the money saved, have a family meeting and together decide how you are going to “share” that money with someone.
Up for the challenge? Let’s be eager to be generous; let’s be eager and ready to share where needed.
